The extraordinary adventure of the La Ginestra tourist complex (the name is a tribute to the poet Giacomo Leopardi, a man of Le Marche et natione et moribus, and to the yellow flowering shrubs that grow abundantly in the area in late spring) began back in the summer of 1983.

Casimiro Mostardi, Mimmo to his friends (a former entrepreneur in the plumbing and heating sector), a true pioneer of tourism in the Piceno hinterland, recognised the – at the time unsuspected – hospitality potential of the area and its natural landscape. Together with his wife Anna Maria and their sons Cristian, Luca and Massimiliano, he began an unforgettable chapter that, even today, is far from over. They were encouraged and supported by his brother Gianni, a teacher of languages and literature at a Swiss secondary school, who in 1984 helped negotiate the allotment contract with the prestigious Swiss tour operator CIS (Club Inter Sport), which thus secured exclusive rights for Switzerland. A fruitful and rewarding collaboration that lasted until 1991.
The first core of La Ginestra consisted of the two central buildings facing each other. The main one is a highly successful example of the architectural regeneration and restoration of an old farmhouse with an adjoining stable, built entirely of stone. It still houses the beautiful restaurant with its majestic portico, and some rooms on the upper floors. The second building, affectionately called Casa Bianca, had ten rooms. Initially the property also included four clay tennis courts (Mimmo’s original name was Centro Tennis La Ginestra) and the panoramic swimming pool.
The partnership with Club Inter Sport allowed La Ginestra to win a loyal and demanding clientele in Switzerland, so much so that at the end of the 1980s eight Swiss families asked
Mimmo Mostardi to sell them building plots, on which they built eight apartments in four rustic-style cottages (stone being the dominant element), beautifully set in an architectural context that blends wonderfully with the enchanting landscape. One of these families, the Ganz family from Zurich, even decided in 1997 to live there permanently all year round. In 1991 a beautiful riding centre with 30 horse boxes was built in laminated timber, with an adjoining riding arena, but the decisive years for the resort’s success were between 1994 and 1996, when 15 independent stone cottages were built to meet the growing demand from the Italian and European market, bringing the resort to a remarkable capacity of 100 beds.
Meanwhile the tennis courts grew to six (today two of them are indoor, one of which is a synthetic multi-sport court), and an artistic mini golf course completed the range of sports facilities. The result of this design effort is still visible to everyone today: a wonderful hotel complex in which the preservation of green spaces blends beautifully with the rural character of the buildings and the many facilities dedicated to sport. All this is crowned by a stunningly beautiful panorama that simply takes your breath away, stretching from the austere peaks of the Monti Azzurri to the small beaches of our Adriatic Sea.
For La Ginestra, the years after 1996 were filled with exciting achievements. Growing promotional efforts, together with an intense programme of international trade fairs, brought the Piceno hotel into the official catalogues of the most renowned European tour operators (Neckermann, Dertour, Olimar and Hapimag, to name just a few) and allowed La Ginestra to comfortably exceed 10,000 overnight stays per season in
2001. In 2006 the Mostardi family gave in to the offer of a local entrepreneur and, albeit reluctantly, sold the property and the business.
Even with changes of ownership and management, in the years after 2006 La Ginestra continued to be a key point of reference for tourism in the hinterland. In particular, the recent acquisition in March 2025 by a company led by young local entrepreneurs has set out to upgrade the resort with higher standards of accommodation and technology, in order to improve overall comfort and the efficiency of the services available to guests.
The extraordinary adventure of “La Ginestra” therefore continues.
